Art as social experience is central to the creation and dissemination
of the Manhua Wonderlands DVD; a compilation and documentation of collaborative
and individual media art works developed through community workshops and
collaborative artist projects. The Manhua Wonderlands DVD tour takes the
form of a mesh-like constellation exhibition, lighting up urban, suburban,
and regional venues in a Simultaneous Screening event. The Simultaneous
Screening links over 330 public libraries, schools, and museums, with
alternative sites such as karaoke clubs, pearl tea cafes, and noodle bars
with pre-existing media infrastructure in the formation of a common viewing
platform.
Placed in conversation with the globally positioned MAAP:
out of the internet exhibition, the dispersion and range of screening
sites mimics the egalitarian nature of net art, reaching into the regions
with the deterritorialising potentiality that any office, bedroom, street-side
or net café may well manifest an encounter with media art.
The Manhua Wonderlands tour presents works by: Jemima Wyman, Luke Ilett,
Sean Healy, Van Sowerwine + Alice Lang, Emile Zile, Spat + Loogie.
